One of my favorite bands keeps daring me to be an ex-fan with their political bullsh*t. The Drive By Truckers are easily one of the best bands to emerge in the last 10 years. They have it all. They can rock hard, do a three hanky ballad and write some of the most interesting lyrics I've ever heard. Since the last general election I've seen the standard lock-step liberal drivel coming from these guys and it's disheartening. The disappointing thing is these guys are supposed to be different. Punk almost. Why the typical liberal group think? "Hey this is for the Obama administration! Yay!" You know what would be daring, or "punk"? Challenging the status quo of left wing ideology. Liberalism is the new establishment. It has been for years in our tv shows, movies, corporations and yes music. Our culture is drenched in it. Why not fight this new establishment? When is the last time you saw some dude at the Grammy's get up and rant about high taxes? You wanna be "punk" and in people's faces? Show some true balls and throw a tirade over the government taking our money for programs that show no progress or hope of achieving the stated goal. Rant about illegal immigration syphoning precious dollars from our health care system. Things like that. Then I'd think you are a truly independent thinker.
I know this is just a small example but it starting to feel like the final straw. I could dig up some interviews of Patterson Hood that are worse but it just makes me ill. Dude still sings the line about Reagan being in the white house with double digit unemployment when he's got a president right in front of him doing the same thing. But no. Can't touch Obama. That might be daring.
By the way, where is Patterson in this video? Did he stay back at the white house to kiss Obama's ass?
Perplexing
